Above Ground Pool Covers
Is your pool prepared for the winter? Don’t let your investment get battered and degraded by the winter weather. The varying temperatures combined with the suns UV rays during the winter months are responsible for fading and degrading the liner of your pool. Frost and freezing temperature causes the pools material to perish causing crack that will reduce the life of your above ground pool.
Above ground pool covers are reasonably cheap. You can get a 16’ pool cover with a 12 year guarantee for $50 and double that for a 21’ cover. Not only do they protect the poll and prolonging its life, they also keep out debris and leaves and prevent algae building up inside the pool. When the warm weather arrives you won’t have to spend the first few days scrubbing and cleaning the pool. Simple remove the cover and your ready to go.
Some above ground pool covers have an extra layer of silver material to deflect the heat preventing algae building up in pool if the cover is used when the pool is full. Most above ground pool covers come with multi year guarantees. Don’t buy a cover without a guarantee as they do take a battering when used and when stored during the summer months.
Be sure to buy the correct size cover for your pool. Don’t stretch the cover to make it fit. Don’t use bricks or heavy object to secure the cover. A Sagging cover will collect water on the surface. A small amount of water isn’t a problem but it might be difficult for you to remove the cover with a few gallons of water lying on the top.
As well as winter covers, two other types of above ground pool covers are available. The first is a leaf cover which is similar in appearance to the winter covers but the material used is much thinner. The leaf cover don’t offer the same UV protection as the winter covers, they are much lighter and are better for areas with mild winter such as California.
The third type is the safety cover. Their construction is generally a mesh type and they have none of the properties of the other two covers. They won’t prevent debris or leave falling into your pool and offer no UV or extreme weather protection. But they do prevent children falling into the water. The mesh is often made of nylon rope which is quite abrasive and makes it uncomfortable and unappealing for children to climb on. The mesh is generally about 4 inches in size stopping children putting their heads through the gaps.
